[Tennis- ATP Atlanta] 24.7/ 23:00 J.Wolf- J.Jung

This is Jung's first main-draw match at an ATP event in just over two years, as he's been spending the past couple years playing pretty much exclusively at lower levels .. and even then, we're looking at a guy who's been 13-13 at Challenger main-draws in the last 52 weeks. (His overall record looks better than that, but that includes wins in Challenger qualifiers and ITF tournaments, in which he's beating up on guys reguarly ranked in the 300s or much lower.) Of the 127 matches he's played in since 2021, only five have been against players in the top 100, and he's only won one of them.

The defense of Jung here is that he's pretty much exclusively been playing on hard courts for the past year, while this is Wolf's first official match on a hard court since March. It's possible that there may be a brief adjustment required here for Wolf, who's just played through grass and clay seasons, and that could catch him off-guard enough that Jung may be able to steal a set. But that is pretty much it, and even then, Wolf is most at home on hard courts anyways, given his background as an American and an NCAA tennis player. He's even played on this court in Atlanta before, having played (and lost) in qualifiers here last year.

Put all of that together, and it's hard for me to buy that Jung is going to be up for the challenge of staying competitive with a top-60-ish player in Wolf. It just seems like too big a step up in difficulty for him given what his recent track record is like.
