I followed the tournament very closely and watched almost all games from both teams. Germany played a very nice tournament and even though they had to go through penalty shootout in quarterfinals they were the far better team. In half finals they had a 2:0 lead after less then 10 minutes! The squad depth is insane and there are so many good players with plenty of Bundesliga experience. Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen) and Ridle Baku (Wolfsburg) are just two of many. Portugal played a solid tournament as well but they conceded 3 goals against Italy in quarter finals (and defended quite badly, getting a goal right after scoring one themselves) and very luckily got further against Spain, who where without doubt the favourites to make it into the finals/win the trophy. I believe that going for a 3-way win in regular time might be too risky since it’s a cup final.
