[Football- 'International Friendlies'] 15.6/ 14:00 Argentina- Australia
Argentina - the world champions are on absolute fire as of late. A staggering 11 of their past 14 matches have seen over 2.5 goals, and some of them are truly crazy numbers, including a 7-0 hammering of Curacao, a 5-0 blast against UAE and of course some amazing world cup games including a high scoring encounter with France. But I’ll go into more detail here. How did those 3 games out of 14 not hit?
The 2-0 against Poland is because Poland is just a very strong park-the-bus style defensive team. Poland is known for their sluggish style of play, involving a lot of back passes to defenders, to result in frustrating the opposing attackers. This style is absolutely awful for goals - come on it's Poland.
Another 2-0 against Mexico. Again Mexico plays park-the-bus mostly. Nothing much to it, especially when they were in a serious tightly grouped competition in the world cup.
2-0 against Panama - what could have easily been a 4-0 game though. Panama played 5 at the back hence the low scoring result.
But I can assure you Australia will not line up like this. With this being said, Argentina should have no problem penetrating deep into the Australian defense and getting many goals through. With the calm vibe of friendlies, and no pressure whatsoever, Argentina will deliver the goods and score hugely in this. Their squad a lot more experienced and play at superior quality so there is no doubt in the world they will display their masterclass. They have almost a full strength and very experienced lineup - main attackers like Messi, Almada and Lo Celso will all be there, with possible inclusion of Alvarez and Di Maria. Even if a few players are omitted, the core of Messi will still shine through and they will have more than enough depth to cover.
Now onto the Socceroos. For this matchup they are prepared so props to that. But the squad Arnold is sending is well and truly inexperienced. The defensive backline looks ragged - regular defending stones Milos Degenek and Aziz Behich will be out to make way for first-time starters like Alessandro Circati. Their midfield is also missing regulars like Aaron Mooy and Jackson Irvine this time, but the big big problem is their defense. When you have Messi and Co. and one end and such an inexperienced defense, this is just asking for trouble.Don't abandon the team from down under though - they might score one through unexpectedly and also for the thrill and excitement of the fans.
And for Australia's recent history - the high scoring games look good. Two sets of over 2.5 games over Ecuador is an extremely good sign, and supports the fact that Australia is very laid back in their friendly games. Again, this is just a friendly to play for the fans. It doesn't even have a touch of pressure like world cup qualifiers or elimination games. With a chill mood amongst players, a lack of defensive experience but an okay attacking lineup, this is absolutely looking like a position for a lot of goals. There won't be any first half "nervousness" as this isn't for something important - it's essentially an exhibition match for the excited crowd.
Also don't forget - this game is set in China. Thousands will be at the stadium in Beijing, millions of those so called "netizens" will be watching. Tickets for this game were sold out in a matter of 10 minutes for your information. With a crowd and followers amassing into the millions, both teams will be expected to put in some goals and action to respect so many of those watching.I know this will be a one sided encounter, but with the setting in mind and the high fan participation in mind, I strongly and seriously believe both teams will cook off a banger rather than a slow game.
I am 100% expecting attack after attack and end to end action for the thrill of the fans and the commentators worldwide and throughout the country. So what’s does the final scoreline look like, you may ask. I'm saying a 4-1, 3-1 encounter in favor of the champions. Australia may get luck and score two, but this match will see Argentina at outstanding firing mode and giving the Chinese fans a blast.
