Since losing to Leicester, Arsenal have gone on a 3 match winning streak and today I expect this to continue against an Aston Villa team who has surprised may with their current league position. I expect Arsenal's winning streak to continue due to four primary reasons which I'll outline below;
Firstly, Arsenal are generally a strong home team in all competitions. They're unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 home matches and undefeated at the half time break in their last 20. In addition to these undefeated stats, they've managed to win 8 of their last 10 home matches which bodes well for our pick.
Secondly, the matchup. Aston Villa have won just 5 of their last 36 matches against Arsenal in all competitions, losing 11 of their last 14 matches against the gunners including their last 4 matches at Arsenal's home ground.
Thirdly, form. As said previously, Arsenal head into this match on the back of 3 wins scoring for fun against lesser opposition whilst Aston Villa come into this game after 2 home losses conceding 7 goals.
Lastly, class. Arsenal's manager Mikel Arteta has solidified the spine of the Arsenal team with the signings of Gabriel and Thomas Partey.
These additions, along with the improved performances of players such as Holding, Bellerin, Elneny, Xhaka and Ceballos has addressed the defensive frailties that have plagued the team for a number of years now.
The energy of the midfield has been of particular note, pressing the opposition to get the ball back and limiting opposition chances.
I am confident that the midfield and defence of Arsenal can cope with Villa's two attacking weapons, midfielder Jack Grealish and striker Olly Watkins.
