[Football- England 'League One'] 5.8/ 16:00 Barnsley- Port Vale
Barnsley were unlucky to lose the play-offs final to Sheffield Wednesday with a last minute goal from Josh Windass in the 123rd minute. I think they will be promoted this season and will be very up for this match as they will not want to miss out again like last season.
I personally think Oakwell is a very hard stadium to play at for away teams, and having the fans behind them solidifies this pick for me. Last season, Barnsley very rarely lost at home to teams in the bottom half of the table.
Port Vale finished last season in 18th place and had a very unconvincing season to say the least. Conversely, Barnsley always looked a threat last season and actually beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-2 at home 6 weeks before the play-off final which further shows the influence of the home fans.
The only notable player Barnsley have lost since last season is their CB Andersen. They have since signed a replacement in De Gevigney from Nîmes Olympique who have just been relegated from Ligue 2 in France. He is most definitely not the same calibre as Andersen but I doubt this will make a huge difference to the strength of the team.
I expect Barnsley to dominate possession with around 60-65% and score 2-3 goals in the process. Even with Andersen's departure, I can't imagine Port Vale being able to break down Barnsley's defence and doubt they will score more than 1 goal.
