[Football- Germany '2. Bundesliga'] 29.7/ 13:00 Wehen Wiesbaden- FC Magdeburg
Wehen Wiesbaden returns to the second tier in Germany in a crazy style. Although no one predicted Wehen as the favorites for promotion - last season they took 4th place in the table, and then they impressively dealt with Arminia Bielefeld in the play-off (6: 1 on aggregate). The first match of the 23/24 season will be played at the home stadium of Brita Arena. Last season, they were the second most effective team in the league (71 goals in 38 games), and their home game record is 12/3/4. The promotion has definitely aroused interest in football among people from Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, thanks to which tomorrow at 13:00 in the Brita Arena all the seats will be occupied. From my sources inside the club, I know that morale in the team is high and the players feel very well prepared for the opening of the season, and the new players have managed to get along with the team. Wehen suffered one big loss - Benedict Hollerbach left for Union (last season he scored 14 goals), and there were also a few other changes, which I assess rather as zero - for example, Guerleyen was replaced by Vukotic, who is 2.01 m tall, in the center of defence. Nevertheless, Wehen still has some strong shotguns in the squad, led by last season's top scorer Ivan Prtajin, who is ready for tomorrow's game despite missing friendlies. During the pre-season, Wehen won 3 games and drew 1. The goal for this season is to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.
FC Magdeburg was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga a year ago and fulfilled its goal - to keep in the middle of the table, and the coach's statement shows that the goal for this season is the same. Bad news for Magdeburg fans is the departure of their top scorer of the previous season - Moritz-Broni Kwarteng, who joined the ranks of VfL Bochum on July 1. In the previous season, Magdeburg was doing average away (6/3/8). During the pre-season, Magdeburg won all 6 friendlies.
Direct matches between Wehen and Magdeburg do not make sense to compare, because even though it was relatively recently, because 1.5 years ago, Wiesbaden underwent a total rearrangement and literally 2 players remained from that squad.
I think that Wehen is underestimated by the bookmakers, because they do not fully know what the newcomer is capable of. I think 2.90 is definitely too high odds for the hosts and I will not fail to take advantage of it. A no-draw win at 2.10 is also a nice option, and 1X double chance at 1.61 can be matched with any double. The arguments are there, there is a great atmosphere and teamwork, and the cheering of the crowd hungry for a bigger ball in Wiesbaden will carry the team to victory.
