Houston is sitting in 7th place at 8-9-3. They rarely draw and have only had one scoreless game all year. They have been playing well without starter Carrasquilla while he's been out on international duty, but his absence is still notable. Micael is a bigger impact loss as he is a starter on the back line but will miss this game due to a red card received in the last game. They are already fairly thin on the back line after Hadebe was injured in April. Their goals against are not great (1.3 per game), and Steve Clark has been inconsistent between the sticks. He is coming off an 80% save rate last game on 5 SOG, but in the 6 prior games when facing 3+SOG, he's posted the following save rates: 25%, 40%, 14%, 67%, 75%, 80%. In recent home games where both teams finished with 11 men on the pitch, Houston has seen scorelines of 4-1, 4-0, 2-1.
Kansas City is looking up from 10th at 6-10-6. While they are missing Zusi (who has primarily come in late in the 2nd half as a sub), there aren't any other absent players that haven't been unavailable all season. SKC has only had 3 scoreless games all year, and they sit near the top in goals allowed (1.36 per game). They are averaging over 4 SOGs a game, which as noted above, is not Clark's sweet spot. SKC was able to post a clean sheet last game, but their opponents all scored in the prior nine games. Their opponents have scored in 17 out of 22 games this year... and 16 of the last 19.
I think SKC will get at least 4 shots on goal this game, likely more, which should net them at least one goal. Houston has been scoring well lately, and SKC has had trouble keeping clean sheets, so I see Houston at least getting one goal. With Houston not producing many draws... and SKC usually outright winning in a romp or losing in one, I think the safer bet is the over 2.5 goals. But Both Teams to Score is another good pick.
