[Football- Germany 'Bundesliga'] 27.5/ 15:30 Borussia Dortmund- Mainz
Hey all - Back at it today with some Bundesliga soccer as we try to put the USL play behind us. Just an absolute joke of a second half. Phoenix put two shots off the post/crossbar, dominated possession, dominated shots…yet Las Vegas put their only half chance into the back of the net. Just how it goes sometimes I guess. Very sorry to all who tailed.
We’ll make this write up quicker than most: It’s the last day of the Bundesliga season and Dortmund and Bayern are both vying for the title. Dortmund is top of the table with 70 points. With Bayern uncharacteristically tailing them at 68 points. Quick math tells us Dortmund can’t afford a draw here because Bayern will lift the trophy if they end level on points. As a result Dortmund will be pressing for the win here.
Dortmund is on an 18 game unbeaten streak at home a 7 game unbeaten streak overall. They’ve really kicked it into the next gear to wrap the season up, and with Munich’s poor form down the stretch, have the title in their sights. Looking at recent home results for Dortmund:
5-2 vs Mochengladbach
6-0 vs Wolfsburg
4-0 vs Frankfurt
2-1 vs Union Berlin (best defense in the Bundesliga)
6-1 vs Koln
With the Yellow Wall behind them, they’ve been scoring goals in bunches at home and that should continue today given the stakes. Looking at the lines, oddsmakers have the total goals lines set at O/U 4.5 goals so it appear they anticipate a ton of goals as well. This is aided by Mainz’s being in shambolic form defensively as their last four games have all been poor losses where they’ve conceded quite a bit (0-3, 2-3, 0-3, 1-4).
