[Tennis- WTA Australian Open] 15.1/ 23:00 E.Siniakova- C.Gauff
Let's finally start the Australian Open! I'm pretty excited of sharing out some picks in this tournament and even if my win ratio is not good all I want is a decent ROI in the long run.
I was one of the few people who thought that Coco Gauff was hyped quite a lot during 2022 and for me, that was one of the main reasons that stopped her from doing even better in the past year. She has one of the best 1st serves on the WTA tour and her backhand is probably the best one out there as well. Her forehand is probably her main weakness but she's improving on that quite a lot. It seems that she's ready to make a great campaign here in the Australian Open since she already won WTA Auckland last week without dropping a set displaying pure domination in all of her matches.
Siniakova is a decent top 50 player with some decent wins here in Australia to start the year but usually does quite better when playing doubles. The Czech's history in the Australian Open is quite awful since she made 9 appearances here and lost in the 1st round 7 times. She's also 1-7 against top 10 players in majors and facing the world nº7 here might be a really difficult task. If we exclude their encounter in the Billie Jean King Cup where Siniakova managed to beat Gauff who probably wasn't that interested on that tournament we have the american winning all their three WTA encounters without dropping a single set in their 2 hard court clashes.
What I saw from Gauff in Auckland was quite amazing and I don't think Siniakova will be able to keep up against a player with such a huge serve and also quite dangerous on the return especially from her backhand side. I think Gauff gets it done in two sets!
