[Tennis -Australian Open Qualifications] 10.1/ 00:30 T.Van Rijthoven - L.Riedi
After a couple of questionable bets at the end of 2022 I'm now ready to kick off this season with the Australian Open and really excited for that since it's my favorite Slam of the year!
Here we have a really decent match between two players who are somewhat similar in some aspects. They are quite tall, big servers and that in theory should make this contest a close one, especially in the fast conditions of the Australian Open courts.
Leandro Riedi is a 20 year old Swiss talent who should be able to enter the top 100 soon since he won 15 out of his last 16 matches, winning two Indoor tournaments in Helsinki and Andria during November and being a finalist of a Challenger in Canberra here in Australia where he lost in the final to Fucsovics who finally was able to break his 15 match winning streak...
Van Rijthoven appeared last year in the ATP scene in the grass courts of Hertogenbosch where he was able to win his first ATP tournament beating players like Fritz, FAA and Medvedev. He was able to show his strong serve and powerful groundstrokes from both sides and his one handed backhand was something really useful to throw his opponents off. After the Grass season he didn't play so well in the Hard courts but I feel like that was expected to happen after such a great Grass campaign and a 4th round Wimbledon appearance. He started off 2023 going into ATP Pune, beating Albot in straight sets to then lose to Karatsev who played really well in that tournament...
I feel like the market is giving too much focus on Leandro Riedi's winning streak. We have to take into account that some of his wins happened against weak opposition and Van Rijthoven should love these court conditions in Australia. He's quite strong physically and already won against top 10 players that Riedi didn't even play against in his career.Since they are two big servers and the match could end up being decided in tiebreaks I feel like a +2.5 game handicap is such a great play here.
