I am going to keep this short. This is a relegation zone match-up with Nottingham Forest in 18th with 14 points and Southampton in last with 12 points. This is a six-pointer and will have ramifications for the rest of the season. Both teams are at the bottom of the league in goals scored per game - Southampton at 0.9 goals (16th) and Nottingham Forest at 0.7 goals (19th) - and have had a poor run of form in the past five games. Nottingham Forest is also terrible away from home with scoring (only 1 goal scored away all season) and Southampton has not scored more than 1 goal in a Premier League game since it beat Chelsea on August 30. Additionally, eight of the last 11 matches between teams in the relegation zone on or after Matchday 17 of a season have seen under 2.5 goals scored. I am slightly worried that both teams are terrible defensively this season - Southampton in 18th in goals conceded per game (1.9) and Nottingham Forest in 19th (2.0) - and are prone to give up goals, but I think they will both look to sit back and play on the counter-attack in today's match to avoid dropping deeper into the relegation zone.
Bottom-line, I anticipate this will be a close, defensive game as both teams don't want to drop three points in a close relegation battle that will have ramifications at the end of the season.
