Today’s pick is pretty simple, we’re backing the England Women’s team to win the Euros at home in front of a packed Wembley Stadium (confirmed that 90k tickets have been sold!).
England has really been the cream of the crop in this tournament which comes as no surprise to anyone. The team is yet to lose under their new coach and are unbeaten in the calendar year. They’re coming off a dominating 4-0 win over a strong Swedish team and are playing some great soccer with a lot of different ladies contributing.
Germany has been no slouch either having dispatched France in the previous game with a score of 2-1 and have arguably the most in form player in the tournament in Alexandra Popp. They also defeated Spain in the group stage with a scoreline of 2-0 - a team that England struggled with in the knockouts.
So with that said, the sides are equal on paper, and I think this will be a close game that will ultimately go the way of England due to the home field advantage and the backing of 90k fans. England have had no problems scoring goals and I think they are the more defensively sound of the two teams. Also I think they will find a way to stifle Alexandra Popp which will force Germany to find find other players to score. With that said - I’d say this game goes 2-0 to England (with their second coming super late in the game to ice it).
