We move on to some WTA action in Budapest. Elena-Gabriela Ruse (No. 54 world, 2-5 clay) takes on Kamila Rakhimova (No. 109, 5-9 clay).
Ruse is just 13-14 on the year and has lost six of her last seven matches. But don’t let those numbers fool you - Ruse has faced some really tough opponents recently, and actually played rather well against some of the best players in the WTA. She beat Qiang Wang, battled with Shuai Zhang, and gave Coco Gauff a scare a couple weeks ago. Ruse is in better form than her record suggests.
As for Kamila Rakhimova, the Russian has had a terrible season. She hasn’t won a single set in her last eight clay matches, nor has she won a set in 12 of her last 13 matches. Given this lousy track record, I like Ruse’s chances to take this match in two sets.
