Diego is an absolute beast on clay. He is 9-3 this year on this surface, with his losses all coming from fellow clay superstars (Alcaraz, Ruud, and Tabilo). His opponent is by no means a clay superstar. He went 5-6 on these courts last year and this will be his first clay match of the year, so I expect him to be extremely rusty and Diego is one of the worst opponents he could have to deal with this rust. Khachanov is also on a 3 match losing streak and has showed major signs of emotional instability within those matches. I think Diego will drive him even crazier.
Clay is amazing for Diego's short ass because it allows him more time to reach the balls, whereas on hard courts he can get smoked if he's up against a powerful attacker. These two are 2-2 all time, but all of them were on hard courts, so if Diego is able to defeat Khachanov on hard courts, then I think he will have no problem whatsoever defeating him on clay where he thrives and Khachanov struggles.
