In 2019, when Cilic was arguably at his worst, he beat FAA in Washington in straight sets. He isn't in the best form, but didn't really have luck with draws (played Thiem two times in Slams), but had some tournaments where he played well (Rome), but didn't really impress me in others like Cologne. He likes playing in Paris, he reached QFs here in 2018 and 2017 and semis in 2016 and even managed to beat Djokovic once. This surface is faster than one in Washington (where he beat FAA) in 2019 and I think this will benefit him as he likes playing in faster surface. I am not going to pretend that Cilic is some mental giant, on the contrary, he is one of the biggest chokers on the tour, but FAA isn't that far from him in that area. But when in form, Cilic is very good player, with his serve, attacking forehand and underrated backhand.
FAA has been playing good tennis, but I feel like he might be tired from playing three tournaments in a row, although he got out of Vienna fast after losing to Pospisil who isn't that different player from Cilic interestingly.
