The primary reason is that Collins is flat out the better and more consistent player. She has had some tough draws this year losing to Rybakina twice in 3 sets and a couple other losses in 3 sets to Ostapenko and Kudermetova. Her game from the baseline is really strong and can match and often outhit anyone in the WTA.
On the other side is Elise Mertens who has been on a 3-game win streak through qualifying having beaten players outside the top-100. In her previous two matches, you could see complacency slip into her game by losing the second set after winning the first one against much lower ranked players. In my opinion, these were matches that should have been won in straight sets, but that's the WTA.
Collins also leads the h2h 2-0 on hard courts and I feel this should be a comfortable win for her.
