[Football- National League] 3.12/ 16:00 Weymouth- Cheshunt

3 weeks ago, Cheshunt lost against bottom team Taunton, when 8 players were ruled out for Cheshunt. Cheshunt couldn't even provide a full 16-men squad and arrived with only 3 substitutes in Taunton! Liburd and Camara were forced to start in this game despite being banged up. And Da Silva needed to help out as centre-back. Since, the injury situation is going from bad to worse.

2 week ago, Cheshunt played an FA Trophy game against Peterborough, Cheshunt had 11 players on their injury list. As expected, Cheshunt lost that game. But I was to aggressive on the AH spread for that game. An unlucky bad beat. Cheshunt scored 2 very quick slapstick goals. First a free kick goal, which missed just everyone's head and bounced in. Second one, a miscommunication between a defender and the goalkeeper when clearing the line, gave Cheshunt an easy empty net goal. Peterborough rallied back to get the W. But at the end, 1 goal was missing for me to hit the big jackpot.

Last week, when Cheshunt lost to Oxford City, even 14 players were on the injury report. Cheshunt's team manager Craig Edwards called it a horrendous situation and he said if one would pick a team out of players on the injury list, it would be a superb team. Cheshunt was desperate. They promoted players from their youth team and recruited a lot of brand new players on loans.

This week against Weymouth, there are still about 10 players on the injury list. It will be another game, where Cheshunt is forced to put a mix of some regulars, recovered players, young bloods from the academy and new signings into the line-up. That raises the question, how good these raggle-taggle group will function as a team and with the playbook. One can't expect much chemistry. It didn't work well yet as the previous results indicate. Craig Edwards fessed up that it doesn't help to bring new players in every week. The sooner they get the injured players back, the better it is. But for this Saturday, there isn't much hope left. There are still too much quality players on the injury list.

Weymouth and Cheshunt are sitting at the very bottom of the league. Weymouth is 1 point behind Cheshunt. However, Weymouth played 2 games less than Cheshunt. Weymouth is on a little hot run as they won their last 2 games, while Cheshunt is on a 3 game losing skid in National League South.

Weymouth wants to build on their winning streak by taking advantage of Cheshunt's injury misery and raggle-taggle line-up to get a W out this crucial relegation zone fight. In the current situation, Cheshunt is a more than beatable opponent for Weymouth as Cheshunt is already struggling in the league with a healthy squad. Their massive injury problems making things much worse.
