[Boxing- USA] 5.11/ 23:00 D.Morrell- A.Yerbossynuly

Real exciting clash between two super middleweights for Morrells ‘regular’ world title. Morrell was a top Cuban amateur and has only had 7 fights so far in the pro game, but has looked immense and is on the verge of a real world title shot. Yerbossynuly was a decent amateur and since turning pro has looked good going 16-0.

Morrell has huge physical advantages in this fight. He has a 7inch reach advantage and also a small height advantage. Morrell is extremely explosive, with his 6 ko wins all ending before the 5th round. Yerbossynuly seems to fight in a way that doesn’t actually suit him all that well. His herky-jerky movement often sees him end up getting clipped whilst in motion. Both of these have the same former opponent in Lennox Allen, with Morrell winning by a wide UD and Yerbossynuly stopping Allen in the 10th. It may look good that the Kazak got the stoppage, however he was caught with a lot of power punches from Allen and one judge even had it a draw at the time of the stoppage. When Morrell fought Allen it was only his third pro fight and although he didn’t get the stoppage he beat him far more comfortably, dropping two rounds max. Since fighting Allen he’s looked even better, going on to stop every opponent including fighters who hadn’t been stopped previously. Yerbossynuly has only fought once in the last two years so ring rust may also be a negative for him. The Kazak has also been dropped twice previously in fights against journeyman. These may have been fairly early on in his career but I think it’s worth noting.

Overall I think the reach advantage for Morrell is going to play a big factor and with Yerbossynuly’s unnecessary over the top movement I feel it will only be a matter of time before Morrell lands a bomb. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see this fight finish early, although Morrell does have 12 rounds to get the stoppage.
