Battle of the brawlers here with Adam Kownacki looking to bounce back from two brutal beatings from Robert Helenius and Demirezen hoping to continue his 5 fight win streak.

Kownacki was on a really good run before the two Helenius defeats and looked good in fights against Arreola, Martin and Szpilka. His opponent Demirezen has only been beat once, which was against Efe Ajagba. The Turk doesn’t really have much hype around him but he’s got a decent record with no notable wins. In his last fight he looked pretty average against the ancient but stupidly durable Kevin Johnson and amazingly Johnson was looking to be picking up rounds early and midway on (this is very rare as Johnson rarely throws). Before that he fought Gerald Washington and again was in a very close fight but ended up stopping Washington in the eighth round, bare in mind Kownacki stopped Washington in two rounds a few years ago.

Both of these guys fight very much the same but one key differentiator is Kownacki’s unbelievable punch output. I’d also say skills wise Kownacki is the better fighter, the only concern for me is how badly the Helenius defeats have affected him physically and mentally, but I do like how he’s confident enough to go into a fight like this as his comeback. Another good indicator to show Kownacki has took this seriously is he’s come in at his lightest weight in 5 years. One last thought, when Kevin Johnson fought Demirezen he was quite effective at going to the body and then to the head and with this he opened up the Turks tight guard nicely. Kownacki has great punch selection so I think he’ll look to go to the body often to break Demirezens defence and I think this might become key in the fight.

The two Helenius defeats will be tough to come back from but I think we’ll see a more typical Kownacki performance tonight and against a style of opponent he’s more suited to fighting. I think it’ll likely go the distance with Babyface picking up the win.
