Ajax have not been their usual self this season struggling for wins both domestically and in Europe, but they are starting to turn things around with four consecutive wins in the Dutch league which has pushed them up into 5th place. It’s not where you normally see Ajax but with a few games under their belt with a new manager, they’ve started to look a bit more threatening.
Going into this game, neither team can progress to the next stage of the Europa League, but a win for Ajax will see them snatch third spot from AEK and continue their European season in the Europa Conference League, so I expect Ajax will be motivated to chase the win.
AEK only need a draw to take the Conference League place so Ajax will have to break down a stubborn defence as I expect AEK to park the bus early, but more often than not, Greek sides struggle when they have to play away to teams from more superior leagues. Both teams are missing a few players to injury and suspension so it might be a bit of a grind, but I will take the depth and quality of Ajax and the Dutch league over the Greek league to secure the win and keep their European season alive.
