We have reached quarters in Dubai and this tournament traditionally does good to comeback players or semi-important names who are having a stagnant moment in their career. Bencic, Peng, Buyukakcay, Mladenovic,Hsieh, Bogdan as winners are some examples. Imo it is because they remain hungry for winning still while most of the players have already achieved the feeling of satisfaction in December. I don't see this tournament as a preseason preparation but the very last one of the calendar.
So it is not surprising to see Hercog, Siniakova and Cirstea in the quarters. I have followed Cirstea throughout the week and she was moving on the court pretty impressive. But what is more she was hitting many clean shots which is a quite problem throughout her career. On the other hand Krejcikova has achieved her career best this year and she is saturated enough with success. So mentally i see Cirstea as favorite in this match though technically Krej is far more superior.
I am not a fan of mental is everything in tennis. Hardwork comes first. However I have also detected in my previous write ups that when Krej is not mentally ready, she might enter binge unforced error loops which i expect today vs a determined Cirstea. Plus Krej struggles against players with good footwork abilities (Podoroska, Vika..) though Cirstea is technically an erratic player. Therefore I want to tip Cirstea to win a set at least. Upset is also under my radar in play in contrast to expectations.
