The first meeting ended 1-0 to Bilbao in Madrid. Bilbao won the game on a first half penalty. In the second half Atletico also received a penalty but VAR ruled it out, apart from that, it was a very even contest
Both teams struggled in their games prior to this 2nd leg cup tie. Bilbao lost 1-3 to Real Betis in a very weak effort by Bilbao's part, Atletico comes from a 2-2 draw against bottom of the league side Almeria. Almeria was lucky to score by the end & Atletico created some good chances but not clinical enough to win the game.
Bilbao has a mess at the back, which has been a huge part of their success. Yuri Berchiche, Inigo Leuke, Yeray and Ander Herrera on the injury list. Atletico have Azpillicueta and Thomas Lemar out and will probably also be without Jose Gimenez and Griezmann, hope I haven’t missed anyone
Bilbao did well in the previous meeting imo but overall it was an very even game that could have just as easily gone the other way or been a draw. Bilbao are strong at home and rarely lose, but I’m not really sure about the odds on them winning this game, a draw for them in this game is enough and would send them to the final and that’s the result I’m predicting that feels most likely here, I don’t think they’ll really go for the win here. Atletico are more experienced in these kind of cup ties, and Simeone (Atletico Coach) has reached a lot of finals in his long spell at the club with many of the players still in the squad, for the Bilbao players it’s not many that have experienced many decisive games like this one.
Atletico to reach the final is also crazy value which I’ll probably also play, which sits @4.33. A one goal win margin would send them to extra time, a two+ goal win margin would send them automatically to the final.
I don’t see Atletico Madrid leaving this game without a real fight, and I genuinely think they can even win this game.
