This is my first tennis pick in this thread as tennis is off for most of December, but ATP tournaments are finally starting back up and I'm looking to take advantage! This is a matchup of youth vs experience. Fabian enters as a 24 year old with a massive serve and ranked 64th in the world. Roberto enters as a 35 year old and plenty of craftiness that shows up in every match that allows him to hang with the younger tour players still and ranked 57th in the world.
Fabian really began to emerge to end last season and ended the season on a high note. He finished the season winning 7 of his last 9 played matches while losing another in which he forfeited due to injury. In those last 9 matches Fabian went 4-2 against players ranked in the top 60 including 2 wins against players ranked in the top 11 in the world. One of those 4 wins was a full set second round victory against Roberto Bautista Agut.
Roberto on the other hand struggled to end the ATP season. He finished out the 2023 year 2-6 in ATP tour matches. His 2 wins did come against ATP players ranked in the top 56 in the world, but neither of those 2 players he beat have a serve that would considered intimidating. The average ATP tour ranking of the 6 players he lost to is 81.3. This shows that Roberto does still have good tennis left inside him, but he's becoming more inconsistent. I'm going to ride with the young and improving Fabian to use that big serve of his to take down Roberto.
