[Football- Spain 'La Liga'] 3.12/ 16:15 Almeria- Real Betis
Betis are 7th in La Liga and have a chance to jump back into the European places with a win this weekend. Betis are 6-6-2 this season and a lot of their success comes from a sturdy defence which has only conceded 16 goals (5th best). Their offence is solid rather than spectacular with 18 goals scored (10th best), but they are a professional outfit who find ways to win against inferior teams to stay in touch with more the fancied names.
They take on Almeria who are simply awful. They are yet to register a win this season and have an 0-3-11 record. They have scored 16 times this season (5th worst) but it is their defence that lets them down with 37 conceded (worst). They’ve lost 6 straight league games and relegation already looks like a certainty.
I think the main reason the odds for Betis are as high as they are comes down to their form away from home. They have been dominant at home, but their away record this season is 1-4-2 where they’ve ended up drawing some games against mid-table opposition. It’s certainly a factor but Almeria have been so poor and their home record is even worse (0-2-5) so I believe the quality of Betis will shine through in the end.
Also worth noting that Betis did play mid-week in Europe this week losing 1-0 in Prague, but their starting 11 was vastly different to the team they typically put out in league matches - 6 of their best players started on the bench with a handful playing 20-30 mins only, so expecting they will be sending out a full strength side who will be relatively well rested despite the additional game.
