[Football- Euro 2024 Qualifiers] 7.9/ 20:45 Serbia- Hungary

Bolton make very easy work of Salford, winning 3-0. Now only 2 losses in the last 15 picks that I have posted here as my POTDs. Let’s keep this great streak going.

This is perhaps a more riskier pick that I will be going with but I am just scratching my head at these odds that I’m seeing. Serbia are the big favorites here with the bookies and I don’t really understand it. I think Hungary to win or draw at 2.08 is amazing value. Both sit on 7 points in the group and are pretty evenly matched.

In the previous 3 meetings between the countries, both team has picked up one win each.

Serbia looked atrocious at the World Cup, but credit to them they’ve done very well in the group. However the same can be said for Hungary, who have been very defensively sound have made pretty easy work against Estonia, Bulgaria, and Lithuania, scoring 6 goals and conceding none. They tied 0-0 with Montenegro, which was in national news in Hungary considered a huge disappointment. But the thing with Hungary is that they play up to the level of their opponents. This is mostly the same squad that tied 1-1 with Germany and put up 5 goals and conceded none in two games against England in the Nations League a while back. They have some strong talents, such as Szoboszlai, Orban, Kerkez, Sallai, and others who play in the top competitive leagues in Europe.

To be fair to Serbia, they have also played well and only sit second based on goal difference. They also have some big names in their team of course, most notably perhaps Milinkovic-Savic and Mitrovic, who will be the biggest threat to Hungary this match.

I trust Marco Rossi to be able to get his team at least one point. This is a game that will be very low scoring and perhaps decided by a goal. Sure it’s possible that Hungary lose narrowly, but at these very enticing odds I’m backing Hungary and their defensive prowess to get a result. Last key thing I’ll mention is that this is essentially a neutral ground fixture as this will be a closed-door match and the stadium will lack a home Serbian crowd.
