We all know both of these teams, or I at least hope we all do by now. Both defenses have the lowest average expected goals conceded ratios, meaning that they have allowed the least amount of chances of any defenses in the tournament on average. This defensive sturdiness is what has gotten each team this far, and often enough: defense wins you championships. However, each of these teams have had at least two goals in all of their games in the knockout stage. I believe this trend will continue in the final.
Both teams know each others defensive capabilities, and I believe that both of these offensive lineups have what it takes to breach an otherwise very successful defense. I see Italy’s stonewall veteran defense being breached by this pacey and talented England attack. I also see England’s defense being vulnerable to the fast-paced counter attack Italy demonstrated against Spain, even though they were (and still are) indeed playing without Spinazzola. Offensive firepower galore on both sides, and passion off the charts.
