[Football- England 'EFL Cup'] 27.8/ 20:45 Shrewsbury- Bolton

Before i get to my write up, lets get a little history on both squads. Both teams currently play in English league one (third tier). For Shrewsbury town, they have never made it past league one into the Championship league. They've had a couple seasons where they were just shy of championship league promotion, but couldnt quite close it out. On the otherside, we have Bolton wanderers, a former premier league team for many, many seasons before their collapse about 10 years ago due to a financial crisis that stemmed from terrible ownership. New owners took over in 2019 and basically had to fully rebuild this team after the previous owners dismantled it. The first few years were bumpy, especially the covid year, but Bolton had back to back strong seasons finishing 3rd & 5th the last 2 seasons & coming up just shy of league promotion in the 4 team playoffs. Now onto the stats.

Write up: Bolton has not had as strong of a start to the season they had probably hoped for, going 1-1-1 in their first 3 league competitions and winning their first EFL cup match in a penalty shootout instead of regulation.
Despite their record Bolton has significantly won the possession numbers, shot totals and passing accuracy in every game this season. Their 2 most recent matches were a 0-0 draw with Wrexham and a 2-0 loss to Charlton in which they struggled to find the back of the net, but probably should have won these matches

Shrewsbury has started off the season 0-3 and are actually winless in 10 consecutive league one matches dating back to March. The last head to head between these 2 teams ended in a 2-2 draw back in April. Bolton won the previous 3 H-2-H matchups vs Shrewsbury, maintaining a clean sheet in all 3 of those victories.

Final thoughts: This will be a bounce back game for Bolton that will jumpstart their season. They are a better team than Shrewsbury and will find the back of the net tomorrow. Bolton has lost in round 2 of the the EFL cup in consecutive years playing tougher opponents, this is finally their year to make it to round 3.
