[Tennis- ATP Indian Wells Qualifiers] 5.3/ 19:00 S.Nagal- S.C.Hong
Nagal made his top 100 debut last month off an amazing start to the season, where he qualified for the Australian Open and beat Bublik in the first round. He followed that up with a Challenger title in Chennai and a semi final in Bengaluru, and took a couple losses from the sheer volume of matches he was playing. Last week, he put in a great display to go 3 sets vs top 50 Sonego, who was even challenging Medvedev in the later rounds. Still, his record this season is an impressive 14-5. Nagal is playing his best right now and recorded an easy win over wildcard Dostanic in the first qualifier round, not facing a break point. Hong is ranked around 220 and has had a good start to the season, reaching 2 Challenger finals already. He has beaten some good players but mostly those ranked 150 and below, and Nagal will be his first opponent this season around the top 100. He received entry into this qualifying draw as an alternate and defeated Kwon, who is coming back from a long injury and is on a 10 match losing streak. Hong was aided by 8 double faults from Kwon in the match, and saved 6 of the 8 break points he faced. Both Nagal and Hong did not have tough opening matches, but Nagal's level at his best is higher than Hong's. Nagal has been solid on his serve this season and should create lots of chances to break Hong. All of Nagal's 14 wins this season have been in straight sets, and he should be able to record a win to qualify into another big main draw this season, covering this spread.
