This bet is always risky, as midweek European matches churn out some weird results sometime and I’m never the most comfortable betting on an away team. But I think there is a lot of value here.
Marseilles are in fine form, they sit top of the EL group with 11 points and have only lost once in their last 9 games. They have won 3 of their last 5 and will be fired up for this match to secure their first place in the table. In the previous match they drew 2-2 in Marseilles, with both teams with lots of opportunities. They have a really powerful attack, although not exactly defensively sound themselves - Auba has scored seven goals and three assists in his last four games and I think he’ll be a very serious threat to the backline of Brighton who also tend to be leaky. I do feel this could be similar to the Milan Newcastle game where the home team presses high all match and gets caught on the counter multiple times. I trust that Marseilles can at least get a draw.
Brighton are a good team as we all know, but their home form is not all that impressive and they are riddled with injuries. They started the season really well but now sit in 8th in the Premier League, with one of the worst defensive records in the top 10. They have won 2 out of their last 5 league games and have conceded 8 goals in those 5 games. I think they start strong, and I can even see them scoring first, but considering Marseilles quality going forward I highly doubt they’ll be able to keep the ball out of their net.
High scoring 2-2 draw is my prediction.
