I always liked Gerasimov and thought he was underrated, good serve and solid groundstrokes. He hasn't been his best since tennis returned, but I feel like the conditions will suit him and his game, he had time to adapt by beating Popyrin in the qualifications which is nice way to begin the tournament and gain some confidence.
On the other hand, Altmaier was very disappointing against Laaksonen, tried to finish points way too early, was overly agressive, tried to attack Laaksonen's second serve way too often, overall a poor performance and he almost got away with it because he was playing Laaksonen after all. This just can't happen with Gerasimov if he wants to win and it is hard to imagine him just cutting all the mistakes down. Also, his 1st serve against Laaksonen wasn't impressive.
